The Minnesota Wind Chill has a lot of depth to its roster. The team doesn’t just rely on two or three huge names to carry them to all their wins. Because each line is stacked with well-rounded players, it’s very easy to overlook the impact a few players have on the field. I’m going to go over five underrated Wind Chill players and how their abilities helped the team succeed in the 2022 season.
5. Andrew Roy
You probably weren’t expecting to see him on this list, as he’s now signed over to the DC Breeze. But there’s a reason fans in the capitol city are celebrating. A-Roy was a stellar handler during his time with the Wind Chill. In 2022, he played ten games in which he racked up an impressive 20 assists, five goals, two blocks, and a completion rate of about 96%. Somehow Andrew Roy went almost unheard of throughout the season, most likely due to the fact that the Wind Chill had such an impressive D-line, so most people didn’t give a ton of attention to the admittedly lackluster offensive line. What makes A-Roy so good is his ability to move the disc around the field and force opposing defenses to create an opening where he can rip a long huck down field for an easy point.
4. Rocco Linehan
Dude, this guy is just a menace on the field. I could tell you his stats and how in just 10 game appearances he got 18 assists, 10 goals, and six blocks. But those are just numbers (ridiculous numbers). However, there’s one shining aspect about Linehan that no one can get numbers for: his reliability. It’s one thing to look at these great numbers and see he’s making an impact, but it’s also important to consider when this impact is being made. Linehan is the person you can know is open when you get to stall 6. He’s the guy who can get open in any situation and take a little bit of pressure off the rest of the offense. Sure he’s not hucking it 45+ yards (though he does have the ability to), but he racks up so many assists by putting himself into smart positions down the field. All around a consistent and reliable player.
3. Marty Adams
Mark my words, Marty Adams is the Wind Chill All-Star player in 2024. He’s just a different breed. In his debut season in 2022, Marty played 11 games. In those games he made quite the impact with his ability to lay it all out. And I do mean that literally. It seems like for every one of his 14 goals and 6 blocks, Adams was flying like Superman. After talking with his teammates and seeing his potential for myself, I can safely say that Marty Adams is going to be a massive part of the future Wind Chill roster.
2. Paul Krenik
Six games. Six. Nine assists. 14 goals. Three blocks. Paul Krenik’s ability to play consistently aggressive ultimate makes him a force to be reckoned with on offense. Similar to Marty Adams, Krenik is definitely a name we’re going to be getting familiar with in the coming years, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see him starting more and more games in 2022, especially with the Wind Chill losing a few players off O-Line. Paul, if you’re reading this, please sign my disc.
1. Michael Freaking Jordan
First off, he shares a name with one of the most recognizable athletes ever, so there’s points for that. But more so comes his numbers and field presence. Over 10 games, Jordan amassed 24 goals, 14 assists, and 2 blocks. He finished the regular season with a completion rate of just under 97%. Not good enough for you? He ended the 2022 playoffs with a 100% completion rate and 2 goals in one game. Michael Jordan is one of the Wind Chill’s veterans, and looking at his performance it’s easy to see why. Put some respect on his name, because he’s certainly earned it.
