I love ultimate. Watching, playing, analyzing— I’m into it all. But there’s one thing that I love about ultimate above all else: being a fan. I’ve been following the Wind Chill since I was 13 years old (19 now). I’ve been following the Strike since last year, and my collection of merch has only just begun. This frisbee season has been exhilarating watching both these teams play (and win) their away matchups.
But highlights and live games on my phone pale in comparison to what the real fan experience is like. The energy is always high, the fans are always loud, and the games are always standouts. More than that, being a lover of professional ultimate in Minnesota means you get the best environment for you and your loved ones. It’s a scene where everyone is welcome and encouraged to be a part of the beautiful culture and community that’s been built around this sport.
I want to highlight a few things that make the Strike/Wind Chill home games especially exciting, looking back to previous years, and some things I’m looking forward to this year.
1. Food trucks!
Whoever is in charge of the food truck selection needs a raise of a gazillion dollars. I’m being serious when I tell you guys I budgeted for food truck meals for this summer.
2. Flag guy!
The whole crew, actually. Everyone who works at the games are so kind and help make every fan feel involved and comfortable.
3. Chilly
Chilly will literally hit the griddy if you tell him to.
4. Great games
From memory, every single game I’ve seen played at Sea Foam stadium has been one filled with highlights, exciting plays, and all around fun ultimate.
5. All the fans
I can’t help but smile when I’m down on the fence cheering for my favorite teams. But my voice always ends up getting drowned out by the roar of the home crowd. Just being around that many people who all love the same thing I do is such a great thing to experience.
This coming Saturday, 5/20, the Minnesota Strike and Wind Chill have a double header at beautiful Sea Foam stadium. My brothers and I will be there for both games. We’ll be wearing our mech, holding our signs, and losing our voices. If you see us, don’t be afraid to come say hi! Minnesota frisbee is back! So let’s get chilly. Kachow.
