Welcome Home, Strike

Welcome home Strike overlay

With a commanding 10-4 win against the Indianapolis Red, the Minnesota Strike looked unstoppable in their latest outing. The Strike are now 3-0 on the season and don't look to be slowing down anytime soon.

Saturday's Minnesota Strike game was the first one played at Sea Foam Stadium, and it was one for the books. After the first quarter ending in just 1-0 in favor of the Strike, the talk of the game was defense. With massive blocks, defensive catches, and eventually a first point break point, the Strike took the lead and never gave it back.

Continued impressive defense brought the Strike 12 minutes closer to their win in the second quarter, and the first half ended with the Strike being up 3-0. After halftime, both teams came back with a new plan, and both teams traded blows. Indy put up 3 points and the Strike put up 5, bringing the 3rd quarter to an end with a score of 8-3. The last quarter saw both teams adapting to their opponent’s new strategy, and the score frenzy went down, ending the game at 10-4.

There were many impressive players in this game, with everyone getting a moment to shine. The handlers were able to work the disc using the whole field, tiring the Red’s defense and opening up opportunities to score. Jane Koch (#10) had a massive impact on the game. Koch ended up getting several blocks, including a massive layout in the second quarter, in key situations to stifle Indy’s offense. These turnovers were critical in helping Minnesota score break points that cemented the dub for the team.

Alicia Carr (#00) was right there with her. Whenever the Strike forced a turnover in a bad spot, Carr’s handling prowess put them right back in the red zone.

The handlers had a major challenge in this game. The wind affected every throw and made it quite the challenge to predict where each disc was going to land; Carr’s control over the disc allowed her to lead her team down field on many break points.

Robyn Fennig (#49) made her season debut with the Strike on Saturday, and she ended up playing a large role on offense. Leading in assists, the player of the year truly showed why she has this title. Not only did she get the disc into the end zone time and time again, but when the Strike’s offense turned over the disc, it was Fennig’s defense that got it back. Twice Fennig forced a turnover and went on to get the assist on the point.
